Corey Smith, Principal

Mrs. Corey Smith is excited and honored to be joining the Rutland Northwest Elementary School community as the principal for the upcoming school year. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Multidisciplinary Studies with a focus in elementary education from Castleton University and her Master’s degree in Special Education from the College of St. Joseph. In addition, Mrs. Smith completed the Educational Leadership program at Castleton University to earn her principal endorsement.
With over 17 years of experience in education, Mrs. Smith has held many roles in education, including classroom teacher, instructional coach, and principal. She began her teaching career at Proctor Elementary School, where mentorship and strong leadership helped shape her philosophy as an educator. Before coming to Rutland Northwest, Mrs. Smith served as the principal of Middletown Springs Elementary School for two years. She is passionate about fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment where every child feels valued and inspired to learn.
Outside of school, Mrs. Smith enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons. They love traveling, especially visiting National Parks, and she is a true roller coaster enthusiast who never misses their annual summer trip to Cedar Point in Ohio.
Jessica Henderson, Coordinator of Support Services

Jessica is entering her thirtieth year with Rutland City Public Schools and her eighth year as Coordinator of Support Services at Northwest and Pierpoint Personalized Learning Center. This year, she will also be the Coordinator of Support Services at Allen Street Campus. Prior to her time as the CSS at Northwest/PPLC, she served as Coordinator of Project SEARCH; a high school job training program in collaboration with Rutland Regional Medical Center, Assistant Principal at Rutland Intermediate School, she served as the district-wide Residential and Private School Coordinator, and a special educator at both Rutland Middle School and SUCCESS (now Allen Street Campus). She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Elementary Education with an endorsement in Special Education from Castleton State College as well as a Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership from Castleton University. In her spare time she enjoys camping, the ocean, and spending time with her family on Lake Bomoseen.
